As part of the GCSE Catering coursework; ‘Dairy as a useful commodity to the chef’, year 10 students visited Langage Farm, on the outskirts of Lee Mill, to get a real taste of dairy!!
Students were given a detailed presentation by our staff on the operations of the farm as well as the importance of the dairy industry within Devon and the UK. They were then given a guided tour of the factory where clotted cream, yogurt, ice cream, frozen yogurt and curd cheese were being made. Students then gained hands on experience as they were able to have a go at using some of the machinery used to deposit frozen yogurt into tubs.
Students then had a taste testing session of all the different products that Langage Farm produce and were even shown how the products could be used in a range of different dishes which has helped inspire the students with coming up with a menu for their practical exam after May half term.
A fun and rewarding day was had by all.
Closing date for our fantastic Flavour Find competition is 31st May 2015. Not that long to go, so have you made a start on it? Remember the winning entry of a new frozen yogurt flavour and most catching name will win a great prize.

A short walk from the centre of Devon’s largest city isn’t somewhere that you would necessarily expect to find a great picnic location, but Plymouth Hoe offers a large amount of open green space. It also offers excellent marine life views across Plymouth Sound to Drake Island. The iconic Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse stands over the Hoe and is open to those that want to get a better vantage point to look out onto the Sound. There are a couple of pay and display car parks at Plymouth, postcode PL1 3BJ.
Remember you can pick up your Devonshire clotted cream, scones and jam for the perfect picnic in our shop, Ridgeway, Plympton as well as ordering a hamper online at Devon Heaven Hampers .
It is Langage Farm competition time!

Mill Bay is a lovely sheltered cove with golden sand on the banks of the Salcombe Estuary in the far south of Devon. Children love to build dams across the stream that trickles down the beach and out to sea giving parents the opportunity to tuck into a cream tea picnic! By taking a short walk up the estuary you can access a ferry that runs to the popular seaside town of Salcombe. There is a large car park next to the beach (postcode TQ8 8PU) but this can become full if you are late arriving on popular days.
Remember you can pick up your Devonshire clotted cream, scones and jam for the perfect picnic in our shop, Ridgeway, Plympton as well as ordering a hamper online at Devon Heaven Hampers .
Devon is the perfect place for a picnic – beautiful beaches, stunning countryside and excellent local food and drink! Devon Heaven Hampers provide cream tea hampers, which include our delicious Langage Farm clotted cream, and these make for a wonderful Devonshire cream tea picnic. They have shared with us a list of 5 of the best places in Devon to enjoy a cream tea picnic this summer.
On the banks of the River Dart, Spitchwick is a popular spot for families wanting to combine a picnic or bbq with swimming in the cold deep water of the river. There is plenty of short grass space for picnickers and it is a lovely walk along the river in either direction. There is usually plenty of parking either upstream at Newbridge or alongside the narrow lane that runs past Spitchwick common. The address at which the lane to Spitchwick meets the main road through Dartmoor is 1 Newbridge Hill, Dartmoor National Park, Ashburton, Newton Abbot, Devon TQ13 7NT.
Come back tomorrow for another great place to enjoy a Devonshire cream tea picnic.
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!
